I dont think that the test curve of the tip has anything to do with the size of fish being caught. The test curve is usually a case of how gentle the fish are biting, a light 3/4 oz tip for silver fish is my do to tip. For me its usually a case of using the lightest tip I can get away with to get a good positive pull round. The casting weight will be determined by the test curve of the rod and not the tip.
