Description

The film includes unique performances of her iconic hits Slave To The Rhythm and Pull Up To The Bumper as well as more recent autobiographical tracks, Williams' Blood, This Is and Hurricane. Just as Jones onstage is vaguely mechanic and superhuman in her dead-funky songs, so is she vulnerable, real, funny and fierce throughout the rest of the documentary. Audio commentary with Grace Jones, director Sophie Fiennes, and Associate Professor of Africana Studies Judith Casselberry. Grace Jones is a kind of singularity; husky-voiced and impossible, and (at least to me) unknowable; the robotic 6-foot cypher of 'Warm Leatherette' and something entirely other in her private life. Later with Jools Holland 10/31/08: Grace Jones performs THREE live songs over the course of the program along with THREE different costume changes as well.

It's a look back to another time, one that seems much further removed than the constantly evolving modernism of her Compass Point trilogy. She's not afraid of her life, visiting shacks of old family friends, standing naked in the shower, yelling at subordinates when she finds her hotel hasn't been comped. I just wanted to tell you guys at MVR that I am absolutely delighted with the DVD I bought from you.Afghanistan, Africa, Albania, American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Asia, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belarus, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guam, Haiti, Italy, Jamaica, Kiribati, Libya, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Martinique, Middle East, Moldova, Montenegro, Montserrat, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niue, North America, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russian Federation, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Serbia, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South America, South East Asia, Spain, Switzerland, Tonga, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Ukraine, Vanuatu, Vatican City State, Virgin Islands (U. We see Jones behind the mask as a daughter, mother, sister and grandmother, and taking to the stage for a specially commissioned performance, with legendary hits including Pull Up To The Bumper and Slave To The Rhythm showcased in full. This Company does not however exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence. Signed to Chris Blackwell's Island Records, Jones' three albums Portfolio, Fame and Muse were produced by none other than Tom Moulton, 'the father of the disco mix,' who earned his title by assembling the first continuous mix side of an album in 1974 with Gloria Gaynor's Never Can Say Goodbye. Larger than life, wild, scary and androgynous, Grace Jones plays all these parts yet here we also discover her as lover, daughter, mother, sister and even grandmother, allowing us to explore the world inside the icon.

A huge pity: the original "One Man Show" is one of the greatest music video packages of all time, but this is just a substandard VHS rip complete with a false aspect ratio. The two hours you spend almost exclusively with Miss Jones functions like a mega-backstage-pass: you get to enjoy the concert, a meet-and-greet, a few days of one-on-one, and several meals with her family in Jamaica. Jones' bold aesthetic echoes throughout unique musical performances that include hit songs Slave to the Rhythm and Pull Up to the Bumper. Footage from hotel rooms, studios (Sly and Robbie included) and the Jamaican countryside are less-than-archival, but not by too much, as images still enjoy rich coloring, natural skin tones, and warm light.
