When it comes to a brush, size matters. As with The Body Shop's Large Bamboo Hairbrush, bigger paddles and longer arms will ensure more coverage and comfortability when brushing long hair. On the other hand, smaller styles will be better for those with short hair (or those who are looking for a tool to use on the go). The more bristles, the more control (tension) you get when you blow out the hair," Savano explains. "The fewer bristles, the more airflow you get, so less control but a faster blow-dry." Additionally, she recommends natural over plastic bristles and ceramic instead of metal barrels when blow-drying. For wet hair, plastic is usually the way to go. Our collection features over 200 different types of hair brushes from popular salon brands like Denman, Head Jog, and Olivia Garden. These include radial, bristle, ceramic, curling, detangling, paddle or vent brushes. What sets our eco-friendly brushes apart is that they are not only gentle on your hair but also on the environment. When it comes to bristle material, Nader is a big fan of brushes made of boar's hair, as with the Fromm Intuition Glosser. “These are soft, so your strands will glide through them with ease,” he says. “They help reduce the amount of tugging on strands, which can cause hair breakage, and they're fab for promoting blood flow which is beneficial for hair growth.” Kat Savano is a hairstylist based in the California Bay Area. She is also an educator for Leonor Greyl.

According to Nader, cleaning your hairbrush shouldn’t be a complicated process. “I just mix warm water with clarifying shampoo and let the brushes soak for an hour; that way, all the buildup can disappear," he says. "Then, I rinse them in cool water and lay them out in the sun to dry.” There is a lot to choose from—and we mean a lot. So we’ve done the hard work for you by rounding up the best hair brushes out there; detailing exactly why they’re great. From paddle brushes and round brushes to loop brushes and wet brushes, we’ve got something for all hair types. Nylon can also be effective and some tools mix both nylon with boar, like the Oribe Flat Brush. Plastic is okay, though it won't hold up as well and can cause added friction (and therefore added frizz) to strands. Handle: Consider the ergonomics of the brush. You can choose a few different handle styles: Plastic, wooden or rubber. "For a smooth, perfect, gripped handle, I prefer the wooden handle out of the three," says Taylor, though a rubber handle also provides a solid grip and comfort while brushing, and plastic handles tend to be a more affordable choice.

Anthony Naderis a celebrity hairstylist and the salon owner of Raw Anthony Naderin Sydney, Australia. Round brushes like the It's a 10 Miracle Round Brush are best suited for styling, as they create a lot of volume in the hair. Rectangular brushes like the T3 Smooth Paddle Brush, meanwhile, are good for those with straight hair (those with curls may find that the paddle style pulls or tugs at strands a bit too much).
