Dæmons [ edit ] Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine (1489–90), along with two portraits by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Hans Holbein the Younger, helped inspire Pullman's "dæmon" concept. Pullman followed the trilogy with three novellas set in the Northern Lights universe: Lyra's Oxford (2003), Once Upon a Time in the North (2008), and Serpentine (2020). Lyra journeys through Asriel's opening between worlds to Cittàgazze, a city whose denizens discovered a way to travel between worlds. Balthamos is a rebel angel who, with his lover Baruch, join in Will's journey to find the captured Lyra.

navy blue paper and cloth-covered boards, with titles stamped in gilt on spines; volume three in illustrated boards; dustjackets; [xii],399,[5]; [xiv],326,[12]; [xviii],518,[8]pp.

But she is not without allies: twelve-year-old Will Parry, fleeing for his life after taking another's, has also stumbled into this strange new realm. The great rebellion against the dark powers that hold Lyra's world, and many others, in thrall is nearing its climax. Will's fate is strangely linked with hers; and together they must find a powerful and secret object which people from many worlds would kill to possess. He helps Lyra in an early quest to reach Asriel's residence in the North, and he later helps John Parry reunite with his son Will.

A beautiful Fine/Fine tight clean set which appears to be unread, presented in clear removable protective sleeves. The only other hardback edition of the three books has been the three volumes which were issued by the Folio Society which which were rather mediocre in their illustrations (in the humble opinion of the reviewer here) and were the slightly censored American editions which removed some of the mildly racy passages which talked about the heroine, Lyra's ripening and blossoming sexuality. Lyra and Will both seem to be young and at the same time quite advanced for children their age, but the last book within the trilogy seems more suited to older teenagers. Winner of many prestigious awards, including the Carnegie of Carnegies and the Whitbread Award, Pullman’s epic fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials has been acclaimed as a modern classic. Will and Lyra, whose fates are bound together by powers beyond their own worlds, have been violently separated. First edition, first printing of The Amber Spyglass; second printing of The Subtle Knife (4681097531); ninth printing of Northern Lights. A signed limited box set of Philip Pullman's successful fantasy trilogy 'His Dark Materials', complete in its slipcase. But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle - a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armoured bears.

Modern literature] ALL FIRST EDITIONS, with publisher's SIGNED bookplate loosely inserted in first book.Unusually, Everyman have not put a picture of Pullman on the front cover of the book but chosen a theme from the books which is both charming and appropriate.

Parry insists on being taken through the opening into the Cittàgazze world in Scoresby's balloon, since he has foreseen that he should meet the wielder of the Subtle Knife there. It functions in part as a retelling and inversion of John Milton's epic Paradise Lost, [2] with Pullman commending humanity for what Milton saw as its most tragic failing, original sin. The first fully illustrated edition of Pullman's acclaimed trilogy comprising 'Northern Lights', 'The Subtle Knife' and 'The Amber Spyglass'.

The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo. Cittàgazze's reckless use of the technology has released Spectres which destroy adult souls but to which children are immune, rendering the world empty of adults. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use.
