To start a game you take the true blue fish plus a number of red herrings so there are one less fish than players. However, Sounds Fishy is much easier and quicker to play and is packed with more interesting facts that leave players scratching their heads. The Guesser reads the question aloud and the other players will see the question and the answer (in bold blue). People can really try to put you off by seeming unsure when they give an answer or look ‘shifty’ all with the aim of throwing the guesser off the scent. The quandary that a few good fake answers can leave the guesser in is a lot of fun for all around the table. If you are a fan of party games then chances are you will already have one of Big Potato Games releases neatly tucked away in your shelves already.

Pick up points by eliminating the fake answers that have been invented by the other players — but be careful!

The guesser will take a question card out of the sleeve so they can only see the question whereas the other players can see the back of the card which provides the question and answer. The most we’ve played with is 9 people – and that was over a lunch break with my co-workers this week. Sounds Fishy is a push-your-luck communication game where you try to spot fake answers whilst avoiding the real ones.

As a hobby we to do tend to like grandiose productions with lots of plastic minis and gloriously over produced components. Some people may find the process of coming up with believable answers in a short amount of time a little tricky, or even stressful. If you are looking for a new party game that works in a larger group, can be enjoyed by all ages in most settings and environments, (table, couch, or pub!For all players other than the Guesser, the scoring is a bit different – but very tied to their objectives. If a red herring is revealed the guesser gains a point and can continue to try to find more red herrings or stop if they wish to do so and retain the points. They’ll also win a bonus if they correctly identify everyone, without falling prey to the True Blue Kipper. So if you have the Blue Kipper, you want to give the correct answer in such a way that the Guesser thinks it might be fake. Accessible, breezy, and with a gorgeous design holding it all together, this is a good way to warm up the party or a games night.

You don't need to go into a long spiel about how it all works either, which is always a bonus (some of the best board games are too complex for their own good). The Guesser gets a point for each fake answer guessed correctly, but loses all these points if they choose the true one.

Overall, Sounds Fishy is a fun, simple party game that even those who don’t like bluffing games in our family enjoy playing.
