The crumb structure should be moist and naturally tear into long strips. Cheaper panettone will look more like sponges inside. You may have heard of Pandoro, especially when searching for Panettone recipes. They are both delicious Italian sweet breads, but made in a different manner:

Finally, add your choice of fruited (zest/candied peel and drained sultanas) or chocolate (chocolate chips) filling. Mix until evenly distributed throughout the dough. Christmas is spent with your entire family (it’s not unusual to have 20-30 people) in what feels like a food marathon. When the many courses finish, it’s time for dessert...and there’s always room for panettone. When the dough has risen, tip onto a floured surface. Knead for a minute or so, then begin to knead in the raisins, sultanas and candied peel until evenly distributed. Form the dough into a smooth ball and place it in a 20cm loose-bottomed round cake tin or a ready-made panettone mould (see tips). Cover loosely with cling film. Leave to rise for 2 hours in a warm place until the dough has tripled in size. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C/fan180°C/gas 6.This gluten free panettone is one of the most delicious sweet breads I have had in an age (probably since I created my chocolate babka recipe!) and is worth the time investment it takes to make it. To keep it fresh for up to one week at room temperature, wrap it in plastic foil or place it in a resealable bag.

Line the base and sides of a 15cm/6” deep, round, loose bottom cake tin with a double layer of parchment or greaseproof paper which is 15cm/6” tall. Those with special dietary requirements such as gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance or people following a vegan diet won’t miss out either. Award-winning Gluten-Free Panettone and Vegan Panettone from Lazzaroni means that everyone gets to enjoy this delicious Italian Christmas treat. Buy Pandoro Christmas Cake BE: “It’s very small for such a big box. I feel a bit underwhelmed. The cherries on top look nice, but I really don’t want the chocolate – I want to see the top. It’s well filled, there’s a good distribution of cherries and chocolate chunks in there, and I like that there’s a bit of alcohol to cut through the sweetness. Do I want a big slice? No.” Score 5.5/10 Pandoro (golden bread) comes from Verona and is a sweet bread enriched with butter, eggs and sugar, and dusted with confectioner’s sugar. These cakes were reserved for high-class nobility, as sugar was a very expensive commodity. It usually has an eight pointed-star shape. While traditional panettone takes days to make, this is my speedy version. It has minimal hands on time, a couple of hours of proving and couple of hours for baking and cooling. Do I Need Any Special Ingredients to Bake This Gluten Free Panettone?Place in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap; keepin a warm place for 2 hrs or until doubled in size. EK: “It looks nice, and there’s the classic mix of candied peel and raisins. It’s not the most flavourful dough, but the texture is good. I like the hazelnut crust on top and there isn’t too much of it – but I think it’s not strong enough in flavour to call it hazelnut.” Score 8/10 Add the sugar, mixed peel and sultanas to the 3rd dough and knead it in the bowl for 100 presses without adding flour. Every family enjoys at the end of a (very long) Christmas meal. In Italy, you somehow end up spending at least 3-4 full days around the table.

Buy your hand wrapped or Italian Panettone in tins now for a truly delightful and memorable celebration.Invert a large bowl over the tin and leave until the dough has trebled in size and is taller than the tin, about 3-6 hours. Panettone is different from other sweet breads and cakes because of its history and its texture. The Panettone texture is key, so you’re going to want to pay close attention to the form that this mix takes on as you prepare it. If it begins to curdle at any point, that’s your cue to beat it and stir it more. We want to keep it as light and fluffy as possible! EK: “This is nice and tall, which is what you want, but it looks a bit sad. Do you know what this tastes like? Fruit bread. It’s got the texture of panettone but it’s really missing the classic panettone citrus oil – you can smell it, but you can’t taste it. There are loads of raisins in it, so it’s good for breakfast.” Score 6/10 Roll the dough into a ball and place into the prepared tin. Cover and leave it to rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled in size again. In the meantime, combine the caputo flour, salt and caster sugar together in a stand mixer bowl fitted with dough hook attachment (alternatively, use a large mixing bowl and prepare your arm muscles!). Mix well to combine.

A slice of rich, buttery, golden Loison Classic Panettone in a tin is a wonderful way to start the day – or at any time of day. This classic Italian recipe is studded with raisins, orange and citrus and in incredibly light and airy. This large, 750g classic panettone comes in a stunning tin decorated with Italian fans, making it a beautiful gift. For a delicious Christmas breakfast, try our panettone French toast bake that can be prepped the night before ready to be enjoyed in the morning. In the early 20th century, Angelo Motta and Gioacchino Alemagna, two Milanese bakers, played significant roles in commercializing and popularizing Panettone. They introduced innovations in the production process, making it more consistent and widely available.Traditional panettone is golden, buttery and rich with dried fruit. The baking method takes time, and is a little like sourdough bread in that it uses a 'mother' yeast. Each Italian panettone maker treasures their mother yeast, which creates the distinctive character of each cake. Over time, Panettone gained popularity in Milan and became a Christmas tradition. The bread's name itself is said to be a combination of "pane" (bread in Italian) and "tono" (a suffix expressing largeness or bulk), reflecting its large and domed shape. Continue stirring with a spoon, or with your hands, until the dough has turned in the bowl for 100 presses, without adding flour.
