Alongside them are more classic gin ingredients like juniper, grapefruit, lime, fennel, and black pepper. Fishers is an artisan British gin distilled on the Suffolk coast that uses rare botanicals to create a gin as pure and wild as the sea.

First launched in 2003, Blackwood’s Distillery boasts what is said to be the world’s first vintage gin, made with handpicked Shetland botanicals. Sibling Triple Distilled Gin is produced from start to finish in Cheltenham, from a base spirit that is also produced in-house at the Sibling Distillery.

Moving from one found shell to the next, this hardy little crab goes with the flow and embodies the spirit of laid-back island life without a pirate in sight. As a nod to this our Old Tom has been lightly rested in oak which has imparted a sweeter vanilla note. We produce two versions of grappa: a 100% Pinot Noir version, and a blended one with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Certainly from the documentary clips I have seen about the Shetlands and their climate I’m mildly surprised anything grows there apart from heather, but the quartet meld together in a flavour that has breadth and subtlety as well as initial impact.

Isle of Barra distillers capture the essence of this beautiful island and bottle it to share between friends. Although the botanicals are from Shetland, it still remains unclear where or how the gin is distilled… one of the gin industries great mysteries. However, isolated and sheltered areas, like cliff edges, provide beautiful hanging gardens of unusually hardy plants which have adapted to survive in these extreme climatic conditions.Using a 5 liter glass still we started experimenting with different recipes, only to discover than coming up with a good one, especially after some disastrous results, was not a trivial problem. My colleagues are already working with the Inverclyde Community Development Trust and we hope we can continue working with them to provide training opportunities for local people who will become part of the Ardgowan team.
