H. Phillips and D. Shallcross were the heralds preceding the next royal party. Red velvet constituted their apparel, and ostrich plumes decorated their head gear. Ms. Marple's Christmas" by Ruth Ware (3 stars)-I honestly got very confused reading this. It didn't make a lot of sense. But we get to see the Bantrys again in this one. I have always enjoyed Agatha Christie books as well as the many films and television series over the years. I have read and enjoyed all of her novels so it is pleasing to read other popular authors pay a huge compliment to her memory by writing a Miss Marple story themselves. This made fascinating reading and was very entertaining throughout, I particularly enjoyed the stories by Ruth Ware, Elly Griffiths and Kate Mosse. Miss Marple Takes Manhattan by Alyssa Cole - Miss Marple winds up seeing the bright lights of New York with her nephew and niece. I wasn't a fan of this one. It felt very out of character, nothing like a Marple story, and also there was no plot to speak of. 2/5.

Authors featured in this collection, Naomi Alderman, Leigh Bardugo, Alyssa Cole, Lucy Foley, Elly Griffiths, Natalie Haynes, Jean Kwok, Val McDermid, Karen M. McManus, Dreda Say Mitchell, Kate Mosse and Ruth Ware. Parish register printouts of Maple, Cheshire, England, (Wesleyan Methodist Church), christenings, 1804-1840 Evil In Small Places By Lucy Foley - Marple takes a detour to visit an old school friend and becomes embroiled in the mysterious murder of a former French singer. Because of course she does. A great closed circle mystery that has a very distinct beginning, middle and end. Is it entirely original? No. Is the killer really obvious? Yes. However this still retains that nostalgic feel of a good Christie story, and Marple is as sharp as ever. 3/5. I'm very sad to add a footnote that Hannah passed away on 9 December 2020, aged 85. Her son John says it meant a lot to her that people were interested in her stories and I'm so glad that she shared them with us. Mark Whittaker, 10 December 2020. Miss Rene Rowbotham was crowned Rose Queen for 1935 at the Albert School, Marple, on Saturday 6th July.

1934: Rose Queen Crowned at Marple

The Open roll call is of course liberally sprinkled with ‘one-off’ winners such as Honley’s success of 1884 or Lindley in 1900, Ferodo Works in 1955, City of Coventry in 1981, and Marple in 1996. The retiring Queen and Rosebud crowned their respective successors, sealing the ceremony with kisses and wished for their happiness in office.

The committee responsible for organising the crowning ceremony was: Miss Vernon, Miss K. Hodgson, Miss Nightingale, Miss H. Cochrane and Miss Hodgson (Sunday School secretary). Marple Rose Queen 1935 Her literary debut came in 2006 with Disobedience, a well-received (if controversial) novel about a rabbi's daughter from North London who becomes a lesbian, which won her the 2006 Orange Award for New Writers.Hugh Lane and Margaret Cochran were married in 1938 at the Congregational Church.By 1965, they had bought a home at 1 Lyme Grove in Marple, along with their three children, (myself and my two brothers), my older brother being born in 1945, and myself and my twin brother in 1949. In the summer of 2019 the late Ann Hearle generously donated her collection of local postcards to the Society.
