About this deal

So in the same moment that Warhammer 40,000 the tabletop game is more accessible and affordable for potential fans, and at the same time that more critics than ever are writing about Warhammer 40,000, both fans and critics are being held at arm’s length from the humans making it all happen behind the curtain. It’s an odd state of affairs. I can see a future where the 40K fandom is so alienated by these processes, the means of production so obscured to the public, and the true value of those newest and most sought-after releases so carefully hidden from critics like me that the pendulum of popularity begins to swing in the other direction. And if the pipe really bugs you, don’t worry. It’s a separate piece of plastic that the Neurotyrant basically slots into. It would take some conversion work, but if you don’t want the pipe, you can build the model without it. Psychophage

It’s the fastest, simplest way to get your forces onto the tabletop – all you need are these rules, and one Combat Patrol per player. As it happens, a portion of the Tyranids and the Space Marines you’ll find in Leviathan can be used to form a full Combat Patrol for each faction! One big thing to remember is that these models will all be East To Build (ETB) or Push Fit, which could affect the value. However, with the Indomitus box, some models came out later with multi-part kits, while others have remained ETB to this day (like the Necron Warriors or SM Outriders.)

Similar to the Space Marines, all the Tyranid models are push-fit monopose models. There are no weapon options or alternate bitz, and the Termagants come with Fleshborers only. Leviathan Tyranids Neurotyrant and Screamer-Killer sprue Leviathan Tyranids Psychophage sprue Leviathan Tyranids Van Ryan’s Leapers sprue The miniatures are divided into 25 elite, battle-hardened Space Marines – the Imperium’s ultimate defenders against innumerable horrors – and a seething swarm of 47 ravenous Tyranids that desire nothing more than to consume all the biomass in the galaxy. If you have a MyWarhammer account and are signed up to the Warhammer newsletter before May 14th, you could win a copy of the Leviathan boxed set! Terms and conditions apply. As you can see from the image above, he’s again made from precious few parts – 8 in all, if you include the sculpted part of his base. He’s another very easy miniature to assemble, and whilst ours arrived with a few mould lines (you can faintly see these above) these are pretty easy to clean up.

The most interesting Warhammer 40k Leviathan Box Unit Datasheets Space Marines The Space Marine Captain in Terminator Armour The box itself is comprised of 72 new minis and all the accessories! However, the real question is, what kind of value will you get with this box? Wielding a combi-weapon and two combat blades, this Phobos-armoured Lieutenant can infiltrate ahead of the main Space Marine force, sowing discord among his enemies and disrupting their battle lines. Sternguard Veteran SquadHappily, however, we didn’t find any mistakes or issues with the Leviathan construction guide. If there were, they were so minor we didn’t notice enough to commit them to memory. The Winged Tyranid Prime is a hideous alpha-beast that combines strength with agility, swooping above the battlefield and identifying targets to descend upon and tear apart with razor-sharp talons. Neurotyrant With so many details – such as the intricate grooves on his armour and all the aforementioned runes and wizard-y bits, this guy will be a real delight for painters – a challenge, sure, but get this one right and he’ll look spectacular. Apothecary Biologis, Lieutenant in Phobos Armour and Sternguard Veteran Squad Some terrible hybridisation of squid and chitin, this levitating mind-monster is a seriously stunning miniature with enough brain for a whole army. It’s gross – really gross – but it’s also super cool. The Hive Mind has imbued this particular biomorph with a hunger for enemy psykers, its digestive tract somehow able to metabolise psychic lifeforms into psychocorrosive ash, which it projects forward in blistering torrents. Read more about the Tyranid side of the box here:

If we were taking an average score for the Tyranids side of the box, it would likely come out as similar to the Space Marines: whilst the Tyranids minis are a bit more of a rollercoaster, they have significantly more extreme ups and downs (again, Neurogaunts versus Screamer-Killer). There’s still a great deal to love here, and release-starved Tyranids players will be all over these models like a swarm of their favourite space aliens over a pile of biomass. Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan Review – Price, Value & Savings On top of that, you’ll get the core rules for Warhammer 40,000, and the rules – as well as specially designed missions – for the new Combat Patrol game format. You’ll also find a full complement of Crusade rules to get your narrative campaigns up and running ahead of Codex releases, and a full Crusade expansion that delves into the story of the Fourth Tyrannic War through a series of linked campaign games. As with Indomitus, Leviathan comes with an extra-large transfer sheet for some possible Space Marine armies. Indomitus buyers found themselves the owners of a transfer sheet containing chapter-specific marking for Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Angels. This list has been extended even further this time, however, as Leviathan buyers will gain transfers for Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Raven Guard, Imperial Fists and a selection of more generic marking that can be used across all chapters.

The Winged Tyranid Prime is an evolution of the Tyranid Warrior biomorph, a powerful melee monster and a command lynchpin for the Hive Fleet’s ground forces. The Winged Tyranid Prime was the final model from the starter set GW revealed before Warhammer Fest. Leading the way for the Tyranids is the Winged Tyranid Prime which is going to be swooping across the battlefield looking to scythe you into little pieces. Those wings are going to allow it to get right into the heart of the action, avoiding the gunfire from your opponent with ease. I love it. It shoes a different side to the Space Marines faction: Warhammer 40,000 is satire; there are no good guys, and this battle-maddened lunatic is testament to that. No one in their right mind takes on a horde of Tyranids armed with two daggers (well, three if you count the one embedded in the dead gribbly under his boot). Combat Patrol is a new, simplified way to play Warhammer 40,000. It balances the Combat Patrol boxes available for each faction into their own game mode, granting certain units extra abilities and removing some from others.

Huge shout-out to Ross for snapping these pictures and doing the wonderful coloured sprue photos. Sprues & Models – Command Units A new edition pretty much always brings a new launch box alongside it, and this time around the Leviathan box set is your entry point to 40k. This gives you access to a whole bunch of new rules and a whole bunch of new models, so let’s open it up and take a look at what’s inside.
