You have to place the pads properly on the mop head, otherwise, they can brush against each other, which isn’t what you want when you’re trying to clean the floor. Keep in mind, however, that they don’t spin that much even with proper alignment. They’ll work, but you’ll probably want more power if you’re dealing with big stains or messes. I’ve used the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine two to three times a week for four weeks as my main vacuum, while also running the Dyson V15 Detect to compare suction during vacuuming. I allowed hair and dust to accumulate on the carpet in one room before the first test run.

The product doesn’t come with any instructions. Even the writing on the box is in Chinese. The good news is that setup is relatively straightforward so you’ll be able to figure it out even without an instruction manual. The mop head attachment features a low profile, which allows it to clean underneath beds, sofas, and other furniture. It also covers a large surface area for maximum efficiency (it measures 11” x 2.4”). For those who are wondering, there is an opening at the center of the attachment for debris to enter the vacuum (that’s how it acts as a 2-in-1). I also scattered different-sized grain on the floor to test vacuuming, including sugar, rice, Cheerios and tapioca pearls. I then used the Digital Motorbar and the Fluffy Optic to vacuum to determine which one does best on such debris. Two-in-One: Just because you’re using the mop head attachment doesn’t mean that you won’t get any suction. If anything, it’ll turn your Dyson into a vacuum and mop all-in-one. The attachment can drain the battery due to the heaviness of the pads. Don’t expect to be able to clean an entire room—you will have to recharge it before that happens.

The mop pads get quite heavy when they’re wet. Depending on how often you use it, the excess torque may put extra strain on the motor, which may shorten the life of the Dyson vacuum. While it’s possible to get a full 60 minutes of runtime from the V15s Detect Submarine, that will only work with the non-motorized tools like the Hair Screw Tool and the Combination Tool or achievable in Eco mode. You’ll also get almost the whole 60 minutes with the Submarine roller head as the suction is switched off with it attached, however you'll run out of clean water long before you'll need to recharge the machine. Not a fan of mopping? You can always get an electric mop. Instead of doing the work yourself, all you have to do is press a button. The mop pads will start to spin and it’ll clean the floors for you. You just have to apply a cleaner.During my testing, I managed to get 62 minutes in Eco mode, but I wasn’t quite enthused by the clean I got in this mode. On the other hand, Boost is great for carpets but you can expect to run out of juice in about 8 minutes. The Dyson Submarine wet roller head is compatible with Dyson’s new V15s Detect Submarine cordless vacuums; it is not compatible with other Dyson cordless vacuums, including the existing V15.

Dyson advises that you follow the manufacturer’s dilution ratio instructions to determine how much water to cleaner to use. For dry mopping, simply remove the water reservoir or leave it empty - the dry microfiber will polish off any marks or streaks on your floor, leaving it sparkling and shiny! Another thing to keep in mind is that the Submarine attachment doesn’t hold a lot of clean water. You’ll be able to do a large living room only before you’ll need to refill the little bottle in the cleaning head. So if your multi-room home is all hard floors, you’ll need to fill it often and empty the dirty water just as often, which may not be ideal for everyone.Considering the V15s Detect Submarine is Dyson’s first vacuum mop, I think the company has done quite well. The appliance’s vacuuming skills are, as before, quite good. It’s the same vacuuming performance we saw from the V15 Detect, just quieter. So carpets are well taken care of, as are hard floors. The dynamic suction we’ve seen in the last few Dyson models is here, so most users will only need to leave the machine in Auto mode and it will do its thing and, as before, I still think the Digital Motorbar is the catch-all tool for any kind of floor. However, if it’s mostly fine dust in your home and you don’t have pets, then the Fluffy Optic that ships with the Complete model is good and no longer the novelty that I thought it was when I tested the V15 Detect. As a result of the oversaturation of the wet roller head, and the long drying time, after mopping my floors for the first time using the Submarine, there were visible streaks left behind on the floors. The floors were fairly clean prior to that first run — I had mopped with a traditional spin mop four days before testing the Submarine for the first time (I had company coming over, and also I was testing a different floor care product for work!), so it wasn’t an issue with my floors being overly dirty, which may have required a second pass with the Submarine. It also comes with six mop pads. To attach them, align the pads with the circular base at the bottom of the attachment. Press down gently and they will stay in place. Regular mopping is the best way to prevent pollen, dust, and pet dander from accumulating on the floor. Not only will it be better for your health, but it’ll also keep your floor looking its best (i.e. there won’t be any debris that can cause tiny scratches).
