Description

It feels like a capture card that kept in mind the capabilities of the new consoles and built around them as well, ensuring that HDR capture was possible since both major consoles utilize HDR, as well as ensuring 4K60 pass through at the very least. However, there is no way to route the microphone as an input back to the Source computer; it instead is sent over USB to the Encoding computer and mixed together with the Source computer’s output.

Whether the convenience of not having to fiddle with cables is worth losing this feature is a decision that needs to be made by individual users. You don’t get RGB effects or analog mic input, but you do get 1080/60 RAW capture and 4K/60 passthrough. This is where the smaller form factor of the Razer Ripsaw HD has an advantage for someone like myself, or even an internal card like my Elgato 4K60 Pro - smaller footprint. Often times, the scaler built inside your capture card cannot handle low resolutions properly, especially those run through upscalers.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on PC has not been everyone’s favorite port, but I enjoy the game and hadn’t played it much since the PC launch.

Alternatively, it features an “Advanced Pass-Through” (APT) mode, which allows users to switch between 1080p60 capture and the APT mode with up to 1440p120 pass-through without capture, at the press of a button. This isn't necessary, because I'm using a high-quality Razer USB-C cable, getting maximum performance and all features, and freeing up one USB port on my PC.

Additionally, the card recognized I was connected to an HDR monitor and allowed the capture through without any issues, artefacting, or washed-out color, giving me the vibrant picture I'd expect even if there wasn't a pass-through happening. With that applied, we found we were successfully able to toggle between 1440p60 with 1080p60 capture and 1440p120 sans capture on the XR1. The Second system in our configuration is the EKFG 270 Conquest, but could really be substituted for any other PC, game console, camera, or other HDMI source. There was no frame skipping, color compression, bitrate compression issues or color inaccuracy issues present. The EVGA XR1 is able to receive a 4K60 input signal and pass it through to a display while capturing scaled down 1080p60 footage. At any rate, using a dedicated system for encoding via a capture card can often yield significantly improved results.

I do appreciate that EVGA tried to do something different, and while it's not something I'll use a lot, the extra audio features on hand have been extremely useful in some cases. And while many old hands have no issues using OBS, both Elgato and AVerMedia with their easy-to-use apps, are more welcoming for newcomers.

Your party’s voices are mixed in as part of the Source system’s audio output which means they need to be mixed manually in software relative to the game volume. For one, it has two USB-A connectors on it, with the intention of using both for the best performance (and, it seems, the 120Hz 'pass through' mode). ports, the LED on the capture card is blinking blue, but all I get are black screens - not just "the card isn't giving video" black, I can't even select the card as a source. We never go on what a product says on the box, and in this case, you may well find yourself completely misunderstanding what's there.
